Stop 10 -- Brayton Hall

(Building 21115)

A versatile building, often confused with the 1887 amusement hall which once stood in the vacant lot to the left, it was built in about 1905 using money from the soldiers’ morale fund. The primary use was as a serviceman’s club with a gymnasium in the rear, a library upstairs, and the famous Sam Kee Chinese restaurant, with officer and enlisted dining areas in the basement. In the 1950s and 60s it served as the Staff Judge Advocate court and offices, and today houses the Public Affairs Office.

Behind and to the left of building was the first swimming pool, built in 1908 to provide some relief from the summer heat for the occupants of Fort Huachuca. It was replaced by other pools and buried in the 1950s.
