Stop 19 -- Morgue

(Building 41409)

Skelton Hall (Dentist Office)

(Building 41410)

This little adobe building served as the morgue for the new hospital from the late 1880s until 1941. Today, it serves as a storage building. Lacking electricity and with cooling only coming from adobe walls, flow-through ventilation, and later ice from the ice plant, the deceased were only kept here for a very short time.

The small wooden building next door was originally completed in 1920 as a one-chair dental clinic. A major step forward for patients, it had electrically operated drills, lighting, and equipment.
